April Notes

We didn’t have a meeting in April because of vacations, illness, and such, so we’re really excited about seeing everyone at our May meeting!

Dee, Cheryl, Lori, Stacey, Mel, and Anita represented Lady Cruisers at the 104.7 Bike Show. It was a great day and we had the opportunity to speak to several women riders.

Did you know there are over 28 million female riders according to the Motorcycle Industry Council! WOW!

Ladies, spring really is just around the corner so let’s get together and RIDE!!!

March Notes

Missouri chapters of Women On Wheels® once again took the title of most miles ridden for 2012! Way to go MO WOW!!!! Between April 1st and October 31st, members of the 5 Missouri chapters that participated in the Annual Mileage Contest rode 314,119 miles!

Participating members of Lady Cruisers of the Ozarks rode 65,951 of those miles! Dee took 1st place in the nation in the 501-999cc category, riding 16,719 miles! Congrats Dee! Deana rode 8,266, Jill – 7,260, Leslie – 6,919, Cheryl – 6,911, Melanie – 6,370, Anita – 5,860, Stacey – 4,558, and Dave (Support Member) – 3,088!!!

Lady Cruisers of the Ozarks held their regular monthly meeting on March 16that the Springfield Library on south Campbell and had another great turn out, 7 members and 1 guest. The membership made decisions regarding meeting locations and growing the Participating Dealer Program through interaction with Honda of the Ozarks, Denney’s Harley Davidson, and Pitbull Powersports.

After the meeting, several members were able to ride to Koppie’s on the lake in Cape Fair, MO for lunch. The weather was perfect for riding through the beautiful Ozarks and the crew enjoyed many curves and hills as they made their way to the marina. Koppie’s is located at the Cape Fair Marina, on the water, and they offer a wide variety of foods. LCO set outside under the porch (which is a great place for people, fish, and bird watching) as we enjoyed our meal.

Our Ride to Lunch (which turned out to be a Drive to Lunch due to weather) was March 30th. We met at Bandana’s BBQ in Osage Beach, MO. Several of the Missouri chapters were represented with about 20 members present. Although the weather wasn’t good for riding, the food, conversation, and time with friends was priceless! ****

February Notes

Another good turnout for the meeting on the 16th! 6 in attendance! Thank you ladies for coming!

We had a great meeting and although the weather didn’t cooperate and we didn’t ride, we had great conversation afterward when we went to lunch at Bambu Vietnamese Restaurant. The cuisine was the first time many of us had ever tried Vietnamese food!

JANUARY NOTES:

We had a great turn out for our January meeting on the 19th. We had 7 members and 1 guest present. It ended up to be a beautiful day for January! If I remember correctly, the temp were about 40 degrees at 9 a.m. and by afternoon were in the low 60ies! A couple of the girls rode to the meeting, and after we enjoyed each others’ company during lunch at Newks, they took a spin down around the Reeds Spring area. Hopefully we will have a day like that on our February meeting day!

We received the Ride to Lunch dates from WOW State Ambassador, Irene Hargett. Check the calendar to see when they are! Check back for locations and times as the host chapter makes that information available.

Lady Cruisers 2012 Adventures

During the year 2012, the Lady Cruisers of the Ozarks embarked on many scenic and joyful journeys…in the state of Missouri and outside the boundaries of the Show Me State. There were numerous opportunities to meet up with fellow chapter members throughout the state during our monthly “Ride to Lunch” trips. We frequented quaint local diners and restaurants and enjoyed some great roads and laughter. During one excursion, the meal was not the focal point of the ride at all. We met and had an incredible zip-lining journey at Roaring River together…we traded in our motorcycle helmets for hard hats and harnesses!

The first weekend in June, most of us made our way to St. Louis for our annual State Rally. Several of us made an entire day trip out of the journey, including some miles along the Mother Road. We traveled the entire way on back roads and enjoyed some incredible twisties and scenery. The Lady Cruisers, joined by some of the neighboring chapters, rode to Route 66 State Park just south of Chesterfield, MO. We toured the small but really impressive museum on site and meandered through the park on our bikes. On Sunday, everyone made their way back home…everyone heading off in many different directions.

In July, the annual WOW International Ride-In took place in South Carolina. On the way, we enjoyed the magnificent riding through the Smoky Mountains, including the Cherohala Skyway and the infamous Tail of the Dragon at Deal’s Gap. Another great time was had at the annual event. This next summer the Ride-n will be in Billings, MT…many of us are waiting in high anticipation of riding in some of the most scenic country in the land.

Fall provided great opportunities to help meet the growing needs in our local community. We teamed up to adopt a local charity called One Sole Purpose, whose “sole” mission is to try to provide less fortunate students in our local district with new shoes to start the new school year. We were able to donate a respectable amount of money to help purchase shoes for kids. We also participated in the annual benefit ride for the Victory Mission. Some of our members rode in the annual Cruisin’ for Cleavage, sponsored by the Breast Cancer Foundation for the Ozarks. To end the year and the riding season, we joined Toys for Tots for their annual ride. The turnout this year was incredible, due to much warmer than normal early December temperatures. The final count was close to 2,000 bikes, so many more local children will benefit and be blessed by thousands of toys for Christmas.

Alas, 2012 comes to a close…and now we set our sights on the adventures that lie ahead in 2013. Please join us in the journey…..our membership awaits your presence!!!
